Attitude

"I am amazed at the large numbers of adults who fail to take responsibility for their attitudes...the greatest day in your life and mine is when we take total responsibility for our attitudes. That's the day we truly grow up." I think that this is one of the greater challenges for young leaders. It's so easy -- because we're often so idealistic -- to get bad attitudes about people, organizations, etc., and then to allow those attitudes to fester. One of the things that I'm trying to learn to do, is to isolate bad attitudes and then do whatever I can to get past them.

In some of my latest readings, I've come across seven statements/promises that are a great everyday reminder of my responsibility for my attitude and actions. They are as follows:

I will take complete responsibility for my health, my happiness, my success, and my life, and will not blame others for my problems or predicaments.

I will not allow low self-esteem, self-limiting beliefs, or the negativity of others to prevent me from achieving my authentic goals and from becoming the person I am meant to be.

I will do the things I’m afraid to do, but which I know should be done. Sometimes this will mean asking for help to do that which I cannot do by myself.

I will earn the help I need in advance by helping other people now, and repay the help I receive by serving others later.

I will face rejection and failure with courage, awareness, and perseverance, making these experiences the platform for future acceptance and success.

I will have faith that, though I might not understand why adversity happens, by my conscious choice I can find strength, compassion, and grace through my trials.

My faith and my gratitude for all that I have been blessed with will shine through in my attitudes and in my actions.

Basically, they break down to seven words: Responsibility, Accountability, Determination, Contribution, Resilience, Perspective, and Faith.

this post really spoke to me, because this is exactly where I am in my life right now.

i am to the point that ive been in this ministry long enough, that the initial excitement and "im going to take on the world" feelings are gone.
and theyre being replaced by bad attitudes.

one volunteer or co-worker says something and i take it personally and let it build up inside and than just feel like 'this church is going nowhere' or 'this whole church is against me & my ministry' and i start to want to abandon ship -
when it really is my own attitude that is overshadowing the GOOD things that really ARE happening in my ministry.

...and i think you've just inspired me to write my own blog post about this.
