Bill Hybels, pastor/founder/superpastor, is doing the first session. His topic is "The Leader's State of mind." What he's concerned about is the motivation behind great leadership -- what drives a leader into action? What is it that made Billy Graham start crusades? What made MLK stand up to racism?
I think this is the best insight of his talk: In Exodus 2, Moses sees an Egyptian beating a Hebrew and is so enraged that he kills the Egyptian. In Exodus 3, at the burning bush, God says, "I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt."
Hybel's point -- Whatever it is that you can't stand, whatever it is that you have a "holy discontent" for, is the thing that God often uses to get us off the couch and spur us to action.
What can't you stand? What injustice is gnawing at your heart and mind? Is God drawing your attention to something that grieves his heart also? Is it time to get off the couch?
When a leader if fueled by this "holy discontent" they often move to a new level of leadership...if you're interested in this discussion

PS. As he's moving to the end of his talk he's giving a caveat -- not everything that grieves one's soul is meant to be God's call on our life because there are lots of things that should get our attention. But what is the ONE thing that you can't let go.

so anyway, now i'm in the atrium, and distracted (and loving how the room's lit), sitting next to charles, and dissecting his schtuff.

i was speaking personally with rob bell (yeah, that's right) 2-3 weeks ago, and he told me that he talks on what upsets him (or gets started on, anyway), and encouraged me to do the same. seems like they're onto something.
man, today is the day of run-on sentences for me.
national (or personal) run-on sentences day. august 11th.

destroy all traces of country music
(yes, some will have to die for the cause).
